Former NCT Member Moon Taeil Accused of Aggravated Quasi-Rape

Investigation

Former NCT member Moon Taeil (30), known as Taeil, is under police investigation for aggravated quasi-rape.

He was transferred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on September 12 after being questioned by the Seoul Bangbae Police Station.

Moon Taeil was accused in June of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman with two acquaintances.

None of the other people involved are public figures.

Legal Implications

Aggravated quasi-rape occurs when more than two people or weapons are involved in assaulting a victim unable to resist.

If Moon is found guilty, he could face a minimum of seven years to life in prison under South Korea's sexual crime laws.

Public Criticism

Many fans criticized Moon Taeil, calling for strict punishment. They flooded Taeil's Instagram and YouTube accounts with comments expressing their disappointment and anger.

Some fans have even posted videos on social media of them destroying Moon's merchandise, including photocards.

SM Entertainment and NCT members' reaction

SM Entertainment, Moon’s agency, confirmed the investigation through an official statement on their X (formerly Twitter) account on August 28, 2024.

They acknowledged the seriousness of the case after investigating the details and, after discussions with Moon Taeil, decided that he would leave the group.

As a result, Moon Taeil was removed not only from his units NCT 127 and NCT U but also from the main group NCT.

Following this, SM Entertainment’s official Instagram account, along with the accounts of NCT, NCT 127, and even the personal accounts of NCT members, unfollowed Moon Taeil.
